Up next at Studio B is our first appearance by Matt Slocum and his trio. Actually it's four guys because we get a special guest appearance from saxophonist Dayna Stephens, who appeared on Matt's first album, Portraits. Anyway, it all happens Saturday, October 15th at 8pm. One special feature of this show will be instrumentation changes throughout, i.e. some tunes will be piano-bass-drums, others will be sax-bass-drums, and others will be full quartet. There might even be some solo and duo bits. The great thing is, we won't know until it's happening. As is usual at Studio B, we'll have two nice long sets with an extended intermission for some stellar potluck and conversation. Requested donation is $30. We enjoy doing our part to prevent this kind of artistry from being wiped off the face of the earth by the demon Commerce, which is another way of saying that everything we collect goes to the players and nowhere else. Those of you who were with us for the last couple of shows will remember that Studio B has no blenders, refrigeration motors, audible air conditioning, clanking dishware, street traffic, or anything else of the kind. We invite all you first-time folks to come hear what can happen when players of this caliber get a chance to interact in a truly dedicated space. These events, being so rare, are starting to feel like reunions. It'll be great to see returning friends again, and to welcome new ones. |
